Question by Andrea T: How many calories does an average person burn in a normal day – without any additional “exercise”?
I’m just wondering how many of the average 1800 calories a woman typically consumes per day are burned through natural daily activity. I’m trying to figure out how much exercise I really need to be doing to burn more calories than I consume, therefore eventually losing weight.

Metabolism slows down gradually as you get older.
Weight highers your metabolism and so does height.
Anyways don’t take less that 1,500-1,200 calories a day or your metabolism will go madly down.
If you didn’t know metabolism=calories your body uses to stay active/alive

Basal Metabolic Rate shows the number of calories your body needs to operate. This doesn’t account for any activity, it’s simply the energy needed to sustain a heartbeat, breathing and normal body temperature. It measures the body at rest, not sleep, at room temperature.
The formula is as follows
BMR for females = 655 + (9.6 x w) + (1.8 x h) – (4.7 x y)
h = height in centimeters (inches x 2.54)
w = weight in kilograms (pounds ÷ 2.2)
y = age in years
You go 500 over the number, you lose about a pound of fat a week, you go 500 over, you gain about a pound a week, the same goes for exercise, burn 500 a day, lose a pound of fat a week.

In a nut shell, you burn off calories in 3 ways:
1. Thru basal metabolic rate (BMR) – this is the burning of calories while your body’s at rest. It takes up to 60 -70%
of total calories burned in a day.
2. Thru how active you’re – the more active and the more exercise you do, you expense off more calories.
3.Thru thermic effect of food – when you eat food, you need energy to process and digest the food. That energy you expense off is in calorie form
