Question by gwenny9093: i have been attending exercise “boot camp”?
we never ran or jogged only in warm up. The last day of the class was semi nice out and only 3 people showed so the guy said “lets go for a light run” meaning ok, around the block. No one took water and i was all in black as we are inside for boot camp.so we start to jog and I have not jogged since grade 9…I am now 38..anyway to make along story short we start to jog and he wont let me stop and it was 4K.That with NO training, no proper breathing, water or clothing. My legs swelled up that night of course. should we not have been building up to that??? and how can I build up to it?

Yes you should have been training for that. You can’t just get on the pavement and start running a marathon and you haven’t jogged in years.
You have to know how to jog when jogging. Like, when you jog make sure your heels go down first and then your toes. Sometimes you can get “shin splints” which are very painful if you don’t jog properly. Also, you have to have the proper jogging shoes. If not, it can cause your legs to hurt afterward.
The best way to build up for jogging is to jog. Just start jogging. If you can only jog for 2 minutes then stop and do a power walk for about1-2 minutes and then start jogging again. You have to do this process over and over, day after day increasing the jog time. As you do this, it will cause you to build up stamina for running. You won’t give out of breath so easily either. It takes a little while to build up to it though.
NOTE: Running on a treadmill is totally different from running on a pavement. So, which ever one you plan on running on the most is the one you may want to train on the most. I can running forever on a treadmill, but I can’t run very long on pavement. However, all it takes is consistent training. Good Luck
