Fitness exercises offer a range of benefits from the body. Not only do they help a person lose excess weight, fitness exercises offer a healthy way of building stamina and ensuring longevity.

Fitness exercises of many types. They can take the form of aerobic exercises which helps elevate heart rate over a long period of time. Or they can be resistance training which is ideal for those seeking a toned body. Stretching can also be a form of fitness exercises and these are beneficial for they ensure that limbs and muscles are stretched to their maximum.

Fitness exercises not only help reduce excess body weight and increase stamina. They are also known to reduce the risk of many conditions in the long term. The risk for conditions such as heart disease and stroke is reduced considerably with regular fitness exercises, while strengthening the heart muscles and reducing blood pressure too. Blood flow is improved and the heart’s working competence is greatly increased. Diabetes is a condition caused by high blood sugar and fitness exercises are known to reduce the body fat thereby preventing the occurrence of Type 2 diabetes. Osteoporosis is a bone de-generating disease and with regular fitness exercises one is assured of bone formation and a reduced risk of bone loss at old age.

People spend large amounts of money to lose weight, investing in fad diets they think might help or by buying expensive exercise gear or hiring a professional trainer. While these may help one lose weight, a few simple fitness exercises not only let you shed the pounds but is also cost effective. Buy an exercise mat and a few basic weights to get started. Or one can join a three or four day a week aerobics class. Start your fitness exercises with basic stretching. Start with your neck and shoulder muscles, and then stretch your chest and arms before moving to your back and ending with your legs. For the next part of the workout one can either train with weights or use your own weight for resistant exercises. Some fitness exercises one can do with weights include squats, the biceps and triceps curl, the bench press and walking lunges. Fitness resistance exercises that one can do utilizing one’s own body weight include lunges, squats, pushups and sit ups. If you choose to work with your own body weight, buying an exercise ball is a good idea.

Whether it is aerobics exercises or resistance training or basic stretching fitness exercises offer a load of benefits for the body, with some being immediate results while others more long term. To do these exercises one does not need to spend big bucks but a little money on basics such as good equipment, an exercise mat, weights and an exercise ball.

I know the majority of men dream of having the perfect abs if they haven’t already got them but find it hard to know what to do in order to make their dream a reality. To assist with immediate ab workouts, this article was written as a start guide and to help you along the way with some of the best ab exercises to date.

 

Once you have made up your mind to get six pack abs, you will need to make the first step of developing an exercise schedule, which involves some basic ab exercises like the ones listed in this article, and then you must ensure to implement your exercise plan regularly to get the most effective results possible. By combining a regular exercise schedule with an effective healthy meal plan, you will notice dramatic results in muscle tone and you will be able to lose any unwanted fat along the way.

 

Now for the exercises, and here are some of the simple, yet effective, ab exercises for you to try.

 

The Pull Up

 

This is a very simple exercise but it has made it into my top ab exercises due to the fact that it produces results. This exercise can be done almost anywhere, even at home if you have a bar to use, which is a bonus. With a normal grip, all you need to do is to hold onto a bar while lifting yourself up and down without you feet touching the ground and repeat.

 

The Plank Exercise

 

In this exercise, you need to be in a push up position while instead of using your hands, use your forearms to support your weight. Then you just tighten your abs region and keep a straight back and shoulders. Try to hold this position for about 30 seconds in total.

 

 

Pedalling Crunches – Exercise No 3

 

This exercise involves you lying flat on your back with your knees raised and your hands near your head. To start, get your legs moving in a pedalling motion and then, reach the opposite elbow to knee and repeat.

The Best Calf Exercises For Strength & Balance

The calf makes up the lower half of the leg below the knee and above the ankle. The calf is made up of two large muscles in the back of the leg called the gastrocnemius and the soleus. The front of the lower leg encompasses the tibialis anterior muscle. Without knowledge of the calf anatomy it can be difficult to exercise the lower leg and achieve your desired outcome. When the calf is weak it can cause difficulty with balancing which can lead to instability and increased risk of injury to the ankle. Additionally weakened calves lead to eventual immobility.

The calf is one of the most neglected muscle groups in the body. However, the calf is very important for balance and stability and is required for daily motions such as walking, running and jumping. The calf muscles are responsible for pointing the toes (plantar flexion) and standing on the toes. Therefore when exercising the calves it is necessary to push the calf muscles through their full range of motion. However, most people just don’t have enough variation of calf exercises, which limits the strength and flexibility that can be obtained.

Calves should be worked hard and then given time to rest, recover, and grow especially since the calf is used any time the body is in motion. Excessive exercise such as overloading the muscle until exhaustion or working the calves multiple days in a row can lead to injury or inability to move around.  Calf exercises can be incorporated into a lower leg or body routine or can be done on their own. Calf exercises should be completed 2-3 times a week, with 10 repetitions per set and 3 sets.

There are many machines at the gym that can be used for calf exercises. These machines allow you to build up your calf muscles by increasing weight each session. Additionally, machines allow people who have problems standing or back pain to work their calves in a seat position. However, if you don’t go to a gym or have a gym membership there are plenty of calf exercises that can be down without machines or equipment. A variety of calf exercises should be included in any exercise routine to ensure your calf muscles develop the firmness and look you want. Additional calf exercises include running, jogging, hiking, climbing stairs, running up hill and sports such as tennis, cycling, track and field and soccer. Here is a list of calf exercises that can be done at home or at the gym.

 

Home Calf Workout:

Ankle Circles- Ankle circles can be done sitting or standing. Lift one foot 6 inches off the ground and rotate ankle clockwise, keeping the rest of the leg stationary. Circle 10 times. Then switch and circle counter clockwise for 10 times.
Knee Circles- Stand with your legs and feet together. Slightly bend the knees. If you feel unbalanced you can place your hands on your knees to stabilize yourself, otherwise place your hands on your hips. Now slowly move your knees in a circular motion, keeping the knees together the whole time. Repeat 10 times then switch direction and repeat 10 times.
Floor Board Straight Leg Calf Stretch- Face a wall. Place one foot up against wall while your heel stays on the ground. Keep fore leg straight, place hands on the wall, and lean into the wall. Hold for 15 seconds. Then switch to the opposite leg. Repeat on each leg 3 times.
Calf Stretch elbows against the Wall- Stand 2-3 feet away, facing a wall. Lean up against the wall, placing your forearms up against the wall. Keep your heels on the ground. Hold position for 10-20 seconds. Repeat for 3 sets.
Calf Stretch Hands against the Wall- Stand 2-3 feet away, facing a wall. Place one foot forward, staggering your stance. Bend your front knee while leaning forward and placing your hands up against the wall. Keep your heels on the ground. Hold for 10-20 seconds. Then switch legs. Do 3 sets on each leg.
Lunging-Stand straight with your legs shoulder width apart. Move one foot, one step out in front of you. Move the back foot so it is almost exactly in line with the front foot. Make sure the back foot is facing straight forward. With your hands on your hips, bend the front knee while keep the back leg completely straight. Keep your heels on the ground. Hold this position for 10-20 seconds. Then switch. Repeat on each leg for 3 sets.
Pike- Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Bend at the hips placing your hands on the ground in front of you about 2-3 feet (should create an upside down V). Keep legs straight with heels on the floor. Hold for 20 seconds. Then relax.
Step Calf Raises- Find a step (box or elevated surface), and stand on it with the front part of your feet, so your heels are hanging off the edge. Lower heel slowly towards the ground. Rise up on to your toes, and then back to starting position. Make sure movement is slow and fluid. Try not to use momentum when going from down to up. Do 3 sets with 10 repetitions each.
Balance Board-Stand on a balance board and try to balance yourself. If you have poor balance make sure there is a wall, chair or another person within reach so you don’t fall down. Try to hold your balance as long as you can. Start with 30 seconds and build up from there.
Stand on your Toes- Stand with feet together. If you have poor balance stand within hands reach of a wall, table or chair. Go up on your toes; hold for one second then return to starting position. Repeat for 10 repetitions. Do 3 sets.

McKenzie exercises (named for physical therapist Robin McKenzie) can also be very beneficial during times of acute sciatica pain and inflammation (although they also have benefit as a preventive form of exercise as well). McKenzie exercises are often associated with extension (backward bending) of the spine, but in reality they are about testing for, and then exercising in, positions and stretches that alleviate or produce “centralization” of symptoms.

Centralization means that the symptoms move closer to the spin For example, if you have low back pain with sciatica (leg pain), centralization would be where the symptoms leave or lessen in the leg, even if the pain stays the same or gets worse in the buttocks or low back. Over time, in most cases the buttock and low back pain will also improve in situations where initial centralization is achieved.

Because the vast majority of the time extension of the spine is beneficial in reducing or centralizing pain, McKenzie exercises are often called “McKenzie Extension Exercises”, but true McKenzie Technique actually tests for the position(s) that are beneficial for an individual patient.

So, although McKenzie exercises most often do involve extension of the spine, they can involve flexion (forward bending), side bending, and/or rotation – depending on what position reduces or centralizes symptoms.

The following positions/stretches from McKenzie technique are the most common ones that are helpful. You may find other positions that work better for you. You will probably have some pain when you first move into a new position. After you get into each position, wait 30 seconds to a minute to see what happens with your symptoms. The thing to remember is that you are looking for a position that eases the symptoms the furthest away from the spine.

If you have sciatica all the way to the foot, a good position would be one that moves the pain out of the foot and calf, even if it intensifies pain in the buttocks or low back. If you only had sciatica in the buttock and thigh, a good position would be one that moves the pain out of the buttock and thigh, even if it gets worse in the low back.

Any position that makes the symptoms the furthest from the spine WORSE should be avoided ! In other words, do NOT continue with any position that makes symptoms either more intense in the leg or extend further down the leg. Keep testing different positions until you find the one that does the best job of alleviating the symptoms furthest from the spine.

Once you find a position that works well, hold that position for 1 to 2 minutes and then take a break for 30 seconds or so in a neutral position. Repeat the beneficial position frequently, as long as it continues to relieve the symptoms furthest from the spine.

 

The following are illustrated instructions for the most commonly helpful McKenzie exercises.Exercise #1. Lie on your stomach on the floor or another firm surface and prop your upper body up on your elbows while keeping your hips/pelvis down on the floor. Hold this position for 30 seconds to a minute or more at a time. Experiment with bending your upper body left and right to see what position reduces or centralizes the symptoms the most. This can be repeated many times throughout the day during times of acute flare-ups.

Low Back and Sciatica (Acute Symptom Care):

 

Exercise #2. The “Cat” stretch is an alternate exercise to the one in Figure 1. Simply get on your hands and knees and slowly relax your back and abdominal muscles so that your stomach hangs down and your lower back curves downward. Keep your head raised, looking in front of you. Hold this position for 30 seconds to a minute or more. This can be repeated frequently throughout the day when needed.

Exercise #3. If you have an exercise ball, you can use it to stretch your back in extension as shown. If you have difficulty balancing on the ball, be sure to have someone assist you by holding the ball still. This position can be maintained for up to several minutes, but be sure to hold your head up periodically to avoid getting lightheaded. If you do not have an exercise ball, you can use a couple of pillows underneath your low back to place it in extension.

Exercise #4. As mentioned in the text, McKenzie exercises are usually associated with spinal extension (backward bending), but in reality, McKenzie method uses any position that reduces or centralizes symptoms, including flexion (forward bending). A flexion stretch of the spine can be done on an exercise ball as shown, or could be done by lying on a stack of pillows, or perhaps the arm of a sofa. Because flexion can cause worsening of disc problems, It is recommended that you only use this positioning for short periods of time (a minute or less) unless otherwise instructed by a health care professional.

The same exercises just discussed can also be used as a preventive measure once symptoms are gone. As a general rule, if there are no significant symptoms, using just straight extension (as in Exercises 1 and 3 works quite well for preventive purposes.

If I normally only receive pain relief with Dilaudid, will panitrol work for me? I don’t get any pain relief from Tylenol, my pain is to intense, so how will this work for me?

From Moderate Exercises To Fitness!

Have you ever felt tierd and stressed out from work and by the time you get home you see your children running towards you asking you to play football with them ? You refuse them but promise them that you will do after you have a rest then forget!
Instead of disappointing your children, why not say YES ? After all you will be surprised by the amount of energy you’ll have after a 30-minutes of good exercise.

Did you know that by doing moderate exercise at a moderate pace for only 30 minutes, you would feel a lot better, mentally ? It has been proven that this improves your appetite and sharpens your style in problem solving. Not only that. Just 30 mins of good exercise every day can also help you sleep better at night.

What are the benefits of regular exercise ?

It promotes self-discipline and has a positive impact how you perceive life.
Exercise helps in lifting your spirits and getting you out of any depression.
When exercise for the first time, its best to be done for 15 minutes for 2 to 3 days a week. You can increase the time you spend once your body gets tuned up for it.
DON’T you ever force your body! If you get hurt, then stop. You can take a break from exercising for a few days and then you can start again but you need to start from day 1.

These are just some moderate exercises you can do and enjoy:

1. Do the Walking. Make use of your surroundings. You can walk your dog, with your partner or child. Encourage your family to do the walking exercise daily and you will find yourself burning calories while enjoying the surroundings and getting enough sunlight that is also good for your body.

2. Discover the wonders of Yoga. Yoga is one effective exercise that energizes not only your body but also your soul. You may want to learn even the basic yoga positions that are not too complicated but proven effective. A five-minute yoga exercise can perk you up and recharge your body with the energy you lost for the whole day. You relax and at the same time you stretch!

3. Engage yourself into sports. Play basketball, football, baseball, tennis or badminton. Many doctors have recommended sports as an effective way to stay fit and healthy. Sports can also be done in moderation. Do not take it seriously. Shooting basketball with a friend is one moderate exercise that is also considered a sport.

4. Join exercise programs at work. If you still do not have exercise programs at work, then why not start it? You can talk to your boss about it and start with your colleagues. You do not only lose calories but it is also one good way to bond with them. This can be done 30 minutes, 3 times a week.

5. Exercise while doing household chores. Gardening, raking leaves, lawn mowing, doing the laundry, vacuuming and car washing are effective moderate exercises at home. Make use of these chores to sweat and burn calories. Instead of using machines and gadgets to perform these chores, why not do it with your hands and lose some fats?

Making exercises as part of your daily routines will surprise you of how much calories you will lose. Doing these moderate exercises of the same amount every day can burn 150 calories up to 1,000 calories a day!
